Grief and depression are common human experiences, yet many Christians struggle to understand them without guilt or confusion. This public workshop offers an integrative Christian perspective that brings together psychological insight, theological wisdom, and pastoral sensitivity. Participants will learn to appreciate grief and clinical depression psychological through both and Christian lenses, normalising grief and lament as alternative responses to loss. The workshop will help attendees discern when grief remains a healthy process and when it may develop into clinical depression, requiring additional care. It will also introduce Christian spiritual resources for recovery that support believers who are suffering, as well as practical steps for assessing and managing suicide risk systematically and responsibly.

Mr Lim Cheng Yong

MPsy (Clinical Psychology), MA in Pastoral Studies

Cheng Yong is currently a clinical psychologist at a public hospital, working with a range of patients from youth to the elderly. Prior to this, he served as an educator in the local education system for 30 years. In his work as an educator. Cheng Yong received the Caring Teachers Award; as a healthcare professional, he received the Best Newcomer Award. His late-career switch was driven by a call to mend broken lives in mental health.

Dr Matthew Lim

DClinPsy (Clinical Psychology), DPhil, GradDip in Pastoral Studies

Matthew has worked in inpatient and outpatient public mental health services and has supported adolescents and adults with severe emotional difficulties and histories of childhood adversity. He is a registered practitioner psychologist and clinical supervisor with the Singapore Psychological Society, and he actively serves in the counselling ministry of his local church.
